Everything you need to know about Marcella season two, which comes to ITV this February

Marcella season two ITV
The first season of ITV's Marcella (on Netflix now) was brutal. Written by screenwriter and novelist Hans Rosenfeldt (The Bridge) and starring Anna Friel (Broken) the drama was heralded for it's unsettling Nordic style, following a violent women suffering bursts of amnesia.

Following on from the explosive mini-series Trauma, ITV are intending to keep us on our feet with an a new eight-part second season. Returning again to contemporary London, there's a new mystery – a body inside a wall – wearing a school blazer and surrounded by soft toys.

Marcella finds herself on the case, looking at the body of a schoolboy. And because a Marcella storyline wouldn't be a Marcella storyline if it wasn't close to home, the schoolboy turns out to be a friend of her son Edwards, having been abducted a few years beforehand.

The Metropolitan Police quickly pulls together a task-force under the newly promoted DCI, Tim and we are introduced to a new member of the team, LeAnn. Expect to discover new characters – a former musician Reg, an edgy businessman Vince Whitman and his charity boss wife Maya and – worst of all –Becky, the new girlfriend of Marcella’s ex-husband.

As the story progresses, Marcella finds herself struggling to come to terms with her secret, sporadic fugue states, as the effects of her temporary confusion and amnesia impacts her life and the family around her.
