Pharrell Williams: Chanel signs star for new film
Any song that was stuck in your head in the late Nineties and early Noughties would have had something to do with Pharrell Williams. Not only was he a member of hip hop/funk band N.E.R.D but he was also part of The Neptunes, a production team with Chad Hugo (think Mystical's Shake Ya Ass and Nelly's Hot in Here). More recently there have been global smash hits like Get Lucky, the controversial Blurred Lines, and Pharrell's own Happy. In fact it seems that everything he touches turns to gold, so it's not surprising that Karl Lagerfeld has chosen to collaborate with him on the new feature film for Chanel.

The singer (as well as rapper, producer and designer) will join an all-star cast which includes Cara Delevingne and six-year-old Hudson Kroenig. The film will be screened alongside the Paris-Salzburg pre-fall collection on the 2nd December.

Chanel is, of course, no stranger to powerful collaborations. Last week saw the première of Chanel's project with acclaimed director Baz Luhrmann for the No. 5 advert

Last year the Métiers d’Art collection was accompanied by 'The Return', a 25-minute film which depicted Geraldine Chaplin as Coco Chanel and Amanda Harlech as Vogue fashion editor Bettina Ballard.

Chanel has been pushing the boundaries of late. First there was the supermarket stunt in March, which garnered mixed reactions and a hefty amount of press. This season saw the staged protests in which the spirit of the 'Occupy' movement was commandeered for slightly more capitalist purposes.

Regardless of your thoughts on Lagerfeld's direction, it is indisputable that Chanel know how to put on a show. With an all-star cast and 25 minutes to fill, we can only expect great things.
