I See You, Royal Court Theatre

A new play about masculinity in Post-Apartheid South Africa comes to the Royal Court in collaboration with Market Theatre Johannesburg

Royal Court Theatre: I See You by Mongiwekhaya
As part of an international collaboration, new play I See You will premiere at the Royal Court's Jerwood Theatre Upstairs in spring 2016 before transferring to the Mark Theatre Johannesburg.

Olivier-winning actor Norma Dumezweni (A Raisin in the Sun, Young Vic) will swap the spotlight for backstage and make her directorial debut.

Inspired by a real life encounter, writer, performer, director and pupeteer Mongiwekhaya explores ideas of masculinity in Post-Apartheid South Africa. Ben and Skinn are at a party. But when the revelry is broken up by the police, and Ben is accused of a crime, tensions mount.

We know that play will incorporate three languages and Royal Court Artistic Director Vicky Featherstone revealed the production team has 'been on casting missions to South Africa'. So expect a nuanced and authentic representation of culture clash.
