This Is How We Die, Almeida Theatre

Christopher Brett Bailey brings his sadistically funny blend of spoken word and story-telling to the Almeida Theatre

This Is How We Die, Almeida Theatre
After impressing at the Ovalhouse, Edinbrugh Fringe Festival and Battersea Arts Centre, Christopher Brett Bailey’s ground-breaking montage of art forms, This Is How We Die comes to the Almeida Theatre for a blink-and-you'll-miss-it run.

Combining dark humour with a stylised ultra-violence reminiscent of Clockwork Orange, it's a surreal, experimental watch. This Is How We Die immeshes a mixture of genres, spanning road movie, spoken word, prose and music to animate a world that is dying.
Beat poetry, rap, and a strand of thought focusing on Lenny Bruce's conception of language and William Burroughs's verse combine in a montage of twisted Americana.

Christopher Brett Bailey holds court, sat behind a desk, reading by the light of a lamp. He is, as The Guardian's Lynn Gardner describes, 'a mesmerising, mouthy athlete, all tongue-twisters and mobile lips'.

Don't expect easy, predictable theatre: This Is How We Die is as morbid as the title suggests and will unsettle and excite in equal measures.
