Rebel Lectures, The Courtyard Theatre

This three-part lecture series returns to shed light on the under-explored relationship between entrepreneurship and mental health

Rebel Lectures, The Courtyard Theatre
The journey to success can bring wealth, independence and fulfilment but it can also bring anxiety, stress and failure. A new series of lectures lead by Rebel Bingo founder Freddie Sorenson puts the relationship between mental health and entrepreneurship under the spotlight in a thought-provoking programme which is sure to be filled with serendipitous stories about the emotional risks of starting a business, how to deal with these hurdles, and ultimately rise from the ashes. You don't have to see all the talks to understand each one, simply go along and hear a personal account about the emotional challenges that many entrepreneurs face today.

How I helped start a revolution, and then fell apart...
Tuesday 27 August, 7pm

In the first lecture of the series, Freddie Sorensen talks about how he and a group of friends created Rebel Bingo in 2008 which at its height could boast sell-out shows in 1000+ capacity venues in 20 cities across three continents. Their business model revolutionised the game of Bingo, but it was a revolution that would eventually come to an end. Hear the entrepreneur talk about his experience with creating a brand and his relationship with his mental health as he watched the rise and fall of his business.

Depression for beginners
Tuesday 3 September, 7pm

When Freddie Sorensen had a nervous breakdown after growing a successful business, he wished that someone had written some kind of ‘Depression for Beginners’ manual to talk him through the emotions he was dealing with. The talk is aimed at anyone who might be helping someone through depression or have struggled with depression themselves.

Here, Freddie talks about the tools that he learned to use to get him to the next stage of his life.
