Equality and Conductors, Institut Français

Gender inequality is as big an issue in the world of classical music as it is anywhere else – these women are fighting to make a difference

Equality and Conductors, Institut Français
Right now, everyone is talking about the gender gap and it’s no secret that classical music is one of the most male-dominated fields of all. Join four leading female conductors at this one-off talk as they take up the baton to call out gender inequality in the industry.

The Institut Français is hosting Equality and Conductors to discuss and explore this deep-rooted, thorny issue. Held in celebration of International Women’s Day, this thought-provoking event brings together a panel of distinguished female conductors: leading British conductor Alice Farnham; Eímear Noone, famous for composing music for video games; Claire Cibault – the French conductor-cum-politician– and Lydia Connolly, MD of Harrison Parrott.

During the evening, these formidable women will share their own perspectives on equality on the podium, as well as speaking about the lack of female composers and musicians working today. It promises to be a dynamic discussion.

There will be wine and cheese after the debate.
