Chuffed by the international uptake of its #ourhousetoyourhouse programme, which streamed both recorded opera and ballet performances and live concerts over the summer, the Royal Opera House has announced two new live events for the coming autumn.

Sadly, the auditorium remains closed to the public; but the ROH is putting its prestigious stage to good use, starting with The Royal Opera: Live in Concert, a star-studded programme that will be live-streamed via Vimeo.

Curated by the Royal Opera House's director of music, Antonio Pappano, the concert will bring together an international cast of Covent Garden regulars, as well as 67 members of the ROH Orchestra and members of the Royal Opera House Chorus performing together for the first time since the theatre went dark on 16 March.

The cast includes the Russian mezzo-soprano Aigul Akhmetshina, whose Carmen in an abridged version of Bizet's famous opera was described by Culture Whisper's enthusiastic opera critic as ' wonderfully sung, dazzlingly danced and acted, she is unflinching in her command of one of the best-known operatic roles.'

The American tenor Charles Castronovo is well known to ROH audiences, where he has excelled in many roles, including Edgardo in Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor side by side with the soprano Lisette Oropesa, who will also take part in this concert and has recently tweeted her excitement at the prospect.

The internationally acclaimed Bulgarian soprano Sonya Yoncheva, ROH stalwart Gerald Finley, and Vito Priante will also participate in the gala evening.

Hosted by the BBC’s Katie Derham, the opera event will be broadcast live via Vimeo, priced at £16 per household, and will be available for 30 days. The BBC will be partnering with the ROH, bringing the concert to the small screen later this year, and to BBC Radio 3 later in September. All details and tickets here.

A parallel programme dedicated to ballet will take place on 9 October, and will see the whole Royal Ballet company reunited on their home stage for the first time in seven months. Details of the programme, which promises to be wide-ranging in its scope, are still to be announced.
