February Lifestyle Edit 2021

From a dizzyingly good new album from Celeste to an ice-cool collaboration from Bella Freud, here's what to have on your radar this month

The collab...

... Nick Cave & Bella Freud

A warm hug of a cashmere jumper with a salient message - this collaboration between the Prince of Darkness and Queen of cool has to be one of the most covetable pieces of exclusive knitwear going. 'I can’t tell you how often I have brought this guidance to mind and acted accordingly, and how much strength and moral fortitude it has afforded me,' says Cave of his mother's words, that have been hand drawn by Bella in her signature wording.

... Open Water by Caleb Azumah Nelson

This debut novel by 26-year-old British-Ghanaian Caleb Azumah Nelson is both a modern love story and a piercing reflection on masculinity and race. It traces a relationship between two young Londoners, both budding artists – he a photographer, she a dancer. Considering the ways identity shapes experience, Open Water is a soulful meditation on art and love.

Art fix...

... 'Tilted', a collaborative show by Purslane and Wilder gallery

Artwork: 'Tilted' by Amy Beager

'Tilted' is a curatorial collaboration between Purslane - one of our favourite new artistic initiatives - and Wilder gallery. It will feature the work of a number of upcoming and emerging artists, with 20% of all sales going towards the Trussell Trust. As we all know, food poverty is alarmingly on the rise in the UK, so this online exhibition is an opportunity to give back, support the work of young artists and decorate your walls with beautiful original artworks. Don't miss out. The show launches here at 6pm on 11 February.

Watch...

... Malcolm & Marie

Filmed over two weeks during the pandemic and starring Zendaya and John David Washington, this movie lands on Netflix on Friday 4 February. It is set inside one house, with two characters and is shot in glorious black-and-white. The experiment isn’t entirely successful, but Levinson still crafts a stylishly intriguing piece.
