All Kinds of Limbo, National Theatre

Step into a virtual reality in All Kinds of Limbo with singer Nubiya Brandon and NuShape Orchestra at the National Theatre

All Kinds of Limbo, National Theatre
All Kinds of Limbo is not your standard National Theatre show. In contrast to almost all of the 15 new productions that will run at the NT from September 2019 until July next year All Kinds of Limbo takes place off the theatre’s many stages. Do not expect cheering crowds and live music, nor physically present actors and props.

It is pre-recorded in a green screen studio with over 100 cameras and transformed into a holographic image. Audience members experience the performance of vocalist Nubiya Brandon and musical accompaniment form Raffy Bushman and NuShape Orchestra through a virtual reality headset. The result is an intimate, immersive and life-size performance that merges technology and creativity.

Developed by the same Immersive Storytelling Studio that conjured five-star VR experience Draw Me Close at the Young Vic, All Kind of Limbo offers a peek into the kind of technology that will likely shape future theatre shows.

Drawing inspiration from the National Theatre's production of Andrea Levy’s epic novel Small Island, singer Nubiya Brandon and composer Raffy Bushman take the audience on a musical journey through genres including reggae, grime, classical and calypso, reflecting the historic influence of West Indian and black culture on the UK music scene.

Tickets for All Kinds of Limbo are £5 and must be booked ahead. The VR experience takes 20 and runs from 12pm – 9.30pm.
