A Festive Legend Returns: The Great Christmas Feast 2023

The smash-hit immersive experience 'The Great Christmas Feast' returns for a sixth successive year.

The Lost Estate presents The Great Christmas Feast
Enter the home of Charles Dickens, feast in his company, and witness the moment his timeless classic ‘A Christmas Carol' was unveiled for the first time.

Immersive entertainment heavyweights The Lost Estate are back with the sixth-edition of their sell-out winter dining experience, The Great Christmas Feast, taking over a sprawling venue in west London to conjure Dickensian cocktails, theatre, live music and, of course, a multi-course feast.

Behind a hidden door, minutes from West Kensington tube station, lies a portal to Victorian London and the chambers of Charles Dickens himself. Those lucky enough to enter can expect to become entwined in the story A Christmas Carol as it’s brought to life by a collective of musicians, chefs, mixologists and the author himself.

IMMERSIVE THEATRE

It's the night of 24 December 1843 and the author has nearly finished writing his festive novella, but before he puts down his pen for good, he's holding a final reading as guests take their seats amid piles of papers and twinkling lanterns. Once he utters the famous line: 'Marley was dead to begin with…’, his world of ghosts, memories, morals and festive cheer begins to appear.

Helmed by acclaimed director Simon Pittman (Royal Shakespeare Company, Frantic Assembly, Next To Normal Immersive), the 2023 experience stars Alex Phelps (Shakespeares Globe, Tilted Wig, Park Theatre) as Dickens, with a trio of musicians from orchestras like The Royal Philharmonic and London Chamber Orchestra as his intrepid supporting cast.

GOURMET DINING

As with all of The Lost Estate’s experiences, feasting is just as important as the theatrics. In charge of the stoves is Ashley Clarke (Gordon Ramsey Group, SmokeStak, Temper), who's serving a three-course gourmet feast, researched and elevated from the pages of Victorian gastronomic manuals. The menu begins with ‘Smithfield To The Garden’, a trio of dishes inspired by Victorian London’s most celebrated markets. This is followed by either ‘Michaelmas Duck’ (a juniper and Christmas spice braised Gressingham Duck leg) or ’Tourte Au Magi’ (a King Oyster Mushroom and Leek Pithivier), both served with the Dickens' famous trimmings ‘De la Maison’. The finale is an ‘Epiphany Tart’ with Black Treacle, Sweet Ginger, and Plum Pudding Chantilly Cream.

As ever, the journey into Scrooge’s Christmases past, present, and future is fuelled by a host of Victorian Yuletide cocktails, from the Smoking Bishop, to the Pear Tree Cup to the classic Cafe Noir, each reimagined by The Lost Estate chief mixologists Rowan Bell and Ilya Demenkov.

Surrounded by the spirits of Christmas and an abundance of Dickensian cheer, you'll eat, drink and be merry – ‘tis the season to be jolly after all.
