Doctor Who: The Edge of Time, a VR video game
It’s a prolific time for the BBC Virtual Reality (VR) Hub and Doctor Who team. Earlier this month, Doctor Who: The Runaway was released. The experience, viewable using a range of VR headsets, sees an animated version of the Thirteenth Doctor (voiced by Jodie Whittaker herself) face up against a dangerous enemy with you, the viewer, as her unlikely assistant. Unbeknownst to viewers, the experience was merely setting of the stage for an another, bigger one: Doctor Who: The Edge of Time. The original VR video game also stars Whittaker, and is being released in September.

Published by PlayStack and developed by Maze Theory, this VR video game immerses the viewer in The Whoniverse, as inspired by the show’s 55-year history (expect Daleks, expect Weeping Angels). Here, the player's mission is to find the Doctor and overcome an insidious virus that threatens to tear apart the fabric of reality. In lieu of the Doctor, the player will need to pilot the TARDIS and master the Sonic Screwdriver, to recover time crystals and save the universe. This cinematic, feature-length production sees the player solve time-space puzzles, fight classic enemies in familiar scenes and visit new horizons that hide unforeseen monsters.

The adventure is being launched on PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift, Oculus Quest, HTC VIVE and the upcoming VIVE Cosmos.
