Betty Blythe tea room, Clapham

Drink tea, sip cocktails and dress like Lady Mary from Downton Abbey at Betty Blythe tea room in Clapham

Afternoon tea at Betty Blythe, Clapham
Betty Blythe is every little girl's dream: a pastel coloured explosion of tottering tea trays, delicate tea cups, frills, bows and pearls and - best of all - a bursting dressing-up box.
This thin little tea room, just around the corner from Clapham Station, is cute and kitsch in the extreme. Visitors can book parities on the top floor and dress up in beautiful 1920s grab as though straight off the set from Downton Abbey.
Afternoon teas (for adults) include a menu serving Betty Blythe Afternoon Tea, ( £22pp) with cucumber sandwiches and cream tea, Traditional Victorian Afternoon Tea ( £26pp) of goats cheese and watercress sandwiches and Victoria sponges, Alice's After Wonderland Tea ( £28pp) with eat me shortbread biscuits and marshmallow sprinkles and Glamourous Great Gatsby Afternoon Tea (£30pp) with Waldorf salad Taste of Mint Julep sorbet. The delicate sandwiches are beautifully flavoured, the macaroons sweet and moist and we especially liked their cocktails, imaginative earl grey and vodka mixes that are delicately balanced.
We particularly recommend this tea room for those with children, who will be able to make the most of the dressing up box, and suggest parents look at the children's party page on the website.
All is delicate and girly, and although some will find it sickly sweet, those looking to throw themselves into the world of 20s glamour and high tea with abandon won't do better than Betty Blythe.
