Basement Sate Monday Masterclasses

Unique new Soho bar Basement Sate takes guests on a journey through the history of the cocktail and invites them to create their own modern revivals.

Basement Sate Monday Masterclasses
Grabbing a drink in central London bars can sometimes feel more hassle than its worth, with inevitable crowds and slow service. New kid on the block Basement Sate seems to be proving that it can buck this trend, however, with its new bar opening that has the intimate, relaxed feel of a private members’ club. The mixing gurus at Basement Sate will be holding a number of different masterclasses in these atmospheric surrounds over the coming months, where budding mixologists can learn the intricate art of cocktail making.
Mondays will see curious guests learn, in two hour long classes, the history of the cocktail, whilst recreating the classics updated with Basement Sate's own unique spin. In the first half of the Monday masterclass, familiar and well-loved cocktails are to be brought bang up to date using 'the finest rare and boutique spirits'. Guests are then invited to delve into the past and rediscover forgotten classics such as the Van Zandt from 1933 or the Scofflaw from Harry Craddock. The venue are also offering a special menu every Monday, including a selection of their revived classics, such as the Rolls Royce from Craddock's 1930 cocktail book boosted with Californian Overproof Junipero Gin. Bartending whizz Pierre-Marie Bisson presents a daring array of cocktails, which perfectly balance acidic fruity flavours with smoky whiskies and tart gins.
We also plan to try their dessert and cocktail pairing menu – in which each cocktail has been created to complement their pastry chef’s desserts. Blend sweet treats with fiery cocktails in a mix of citrus, spice and sour flavours.
The Monday classes are likely to be a good opportunity to wow friends and family with newfound expertise on the subtleties of the sweet tooth. And, with the launch of Basement Sate's special spring drinks and dessert menu soon, there are sure to be plenty of inspiring seasonal combinations to try. We recommend going with a lively group of friends to Basement Sate, to try their subtle and authentic flavours.
