Distinguished by its red neon façade and old-school advertising canopies, The Screen on the Green in Islington is another single-screen gem full of history and style.

Part of the Everyman group, the cinema boasts a decadent menu of hot food (including homemade sourdough pizzas and mediterranean sharing plates) and classic cocktails. The auditorium includes snug sofas for two, and a stage that plays host to live talks and one-off performances.

The Phoenix in East Finchley is one of the oldest cinemas in the country. Owned by the Phoenix Cinema Trust, it is now run as a not-for-profit community cinema. Patrons include Benedict Cumberbatch, Dame Judi Dench and Michael Palin.

Located in a former Salvation Army Hall, ArtHouse in Crouch End is a two-screen cinema and arts space that has become a favourite amongst locals. While it doesn’t show the same breadth of blockbusters as a multiplex, you can be sure that what is on is worth your time. Their programme prioritizes the critically acclaimed, and shines a light on foreign and independent films.

The venue includes a bar and café and also hosts live music, comedy and theatre.
