The funniest TV show of the year? Forever, Amazon Prime

From the creators of Parks and Recreation and Master of None: a new comedy starring Maya Rudolph and Fred Armisen

Forever, Amazon Prime
Calling all fans of Parks and Recreation, 30 Rock and Master of None: rejoice, for there is a new comedy on the horizon starring two of the our favourite comedians from the American entertainment mainstay show Saturday Night Live: Maya Rudolph and Fred Armisen. And you only have to wait until September to watch it.

Created by Emmy Award-winning writers Alan Yang (Master of None, Parks and Recreation) and Matt Hubbard (30 Rock, Parks and Recreation), Forever has been launched on the back of a rather blank and uninviting trailer, which barely features any jokes.

Instead, we're presented with a montage of pedestrian domestic happiness: proposals in dimly lit restaurants, high fives, holding hands... and a couple slowly getting bored of waving at their neighbours. Now there's a knife. And a fire. Oh goodie! What's going to happen next?

Married couple June (Maya Rudolph) and Oscar (Fred Armisen) live out their easy but boring lives in suburban Riverside, California. 12 years of having had 'the same conversations, eaten the same meals and taken pleasant holidays at the same rented lake house' begin to take its toll on the couple, and so they head off on a ski trip to inject some excitement back into their lives. And excitement is what they get.

According to Amazon Prime, Forever is a 'poignant comedy about love, commitment and marriage'. We admit that with so little information, the plot alone doesn't scream 'hilarious'. But with this cast and crew of writers and actors, Forever may well turn out to be the comedy of the year. Bring on September.

Forever, Amazon Prime, air date: Friday 14 September
