Hope is the thing with feathers

Image of the week
Every week we will aim to bring you an image for our times, something that speaks to a particular moment. This week's image is by Tracey Emin. Emin made this drawing to commemorate Team GB’s participation in the first European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan, but birds are a recurring motif in her work. She loves the fragile nature of our feathered friends and has called them 'angels of this earth'. Birds are loaded with symbolism in art history, but this little one symbolises good things to come. As Emily Dickenson put it, 'hope is the thing with feathers.'
