Orchids at Kew Gardens: Half Term Activities

Every February, exotic orchids take over London's favourite botanical garden in a floral extravaganza known as Kew's Orchid Festival.

Escape London's winter winds and immerse yourself in a colourful celebration inspired by Thailand's beautiful fauna. This year, Kew has partnered with Thailand’s UK Embassy to pay tribute to the country's vibrant vegetation, as the Princess of Wales Conservatory transforms into a tropical oasis for the occasion.

Travel through the bright Vanda tunnel – a whirlwind of artfully displayed orchid flowers in all different shades and hanging orchid bouquets – before following the floating, handcrafted umbrellas that guide guests to the opulent Bang Pa-In inspired orchid palace. A rice paddy, traditional Thai cart, and typical bucolic scene will feature alongside the blossom bonanza.

The 23rd annual Orchid Festival will play host to a week-long series of activities to keep the children occupied over the half-term holidays, with everything from dance performances to talks from Kew's orchid experts.

Meanwhile, adults can participate in cocktail making, learn cooking tips, and indulge in spa treatments. A vast selection of authentic Thai cuisine will be available to sample, so prepare for a festival that will truly be a treat for the senses.
