Genuine Liquorette, Fitzrovia

Inspired by a New York diner, Fitzrovia bar Genuine Liquorette first offered customers the chance to mix their own drink, now the bar delivers cocktails to your door

Fitzrovia cocktail bar Genuine Liquorette turned heads when it opened last autumn, shaking up the entire cocktail bar concept as well as its drinks. With fridges full or pre-mixed, canned cocktails as well as stations to shake-and-stir your own (under the guidance of a mixologist), the offering proved far from the norm. Now, the bar is sending ripples of change through the industry again with the launch of its home-delivery service.

Customers within a 2.5K radius of Genuine Liquorette can head to the bar’s website and browse a selection of suggested cocktails to be delivered to their door, or create their own. Among the suggested options are the bar’s house specials, including an almond martini and agave negroni. Prices for suggested cocktails start at £9 per serving – and you can select any number of servings from two to 20 – while create-your-own beverages cost £10 per pour.

Whether you’re looking to serve fresh, exciting drinks without the fuss at your party, or simply want to liven up a Friday night in, Liquorette’s delivery service is re-inventing the stay-at-home drinking experience. What’s more, the shakers provided are 100% recyclable and, if you bring them back to the bar on Rathbone Place, you’ll get £5 off your next takeaway cocktail.

Those who ‘drink in’ at Genuine Liquorette will find the focus is on craft cocktails, as well as breaking down the barriers between bartender and customer. Customers select their chosen concoctions – which have been pre-mixed, canned and shelved in a self-service fridge – before shaking, stirring and mixing them under the guidance of the bar’s mixologists. The inspiration is a liquor store below a diner in New York’s Little Italy with a self-service fridge from which customers help themselves to beer and wine.

Upstairs is a second bar that's bathed in a golden hue. Here, the offering is cocktails mixed the traditional way (aka by the resident barmen) and star-shaped, stone-baked pizzas.

Whether you choose to mix your own drink and sip it at the bar, or order a takeaway concoction to drink at home, one thing’s certain: Genuine Liquorette is putting London’s cocktail drinkers back in the driving seat.
