Who's Playing Glastonbury 2023: line up, rumours and dream headliners

By CW Contributor on 3/3/2023

Who is playing Glastonbury 2023? Whether you're a smug ticket holder, or planning to enjoy the festivities vicariously via iPlayer, the line up for Glastonbury Festival is always a source of excitement, and a marker of the biggest movers and shakers working in the music industry. As the line-up is announced, there has already been some backlash against the all-male headliners, which organiser Emily Eavis is defending as a scheduling issue post covid.

Confirmed Glastonbury Headliners

The lineup announced so far:

Elton John Headlines the Pyramid Stage on Sunday

Elton John Headlines the Pyramid Stage on Sunday

The Rocket Man's farewell tour finally comes to the end on the Pyramid Stage. Renowned for his larger-than-life on stage personna, bedazzling costumes and infectious hits, Elton John promises to end the festival with a bang. It will be a fitting finale for his six-decade career at the top of the charts. Expect a poignant farewell, a poptastic set and plenty of celebrity special guests.

Glastonbury Headliner Rumours

Arctic Monkeys to Headline the Pyramid Stage on Friday?

Arctic Monkeys to Headline on Friday?

Sheffield indie rockers, Arctic Monkeys, have been the bookies' favourite to headline Friday night for months. It would be their third time lucky opening the Festival, having previously played Friday night on the Pyramid stage in 2007 and 2013. Given last year's line up was notably lacking in guitar-driven UK rock bands, and Artic Monkeys have a new album to promote, we're willing to bet that you'll all be looking good on the dance floor.

Guns N' Roses to Headline on Saturday?

Guns N' Roses to Headline on Saturday?

Despite leading the heavy rock scene since the 80s, American band Guns N' Roses have never played Glastonbury. Bass Guitarist Duff McKagan pretty much confirmed that 2023 is their year, saying in an interview: 'Glastonbury is going to be iconic for us'. This is yet to be officially confirmed but watch this space.

Lizzo?

Lizzo?

The betting odds may favour Arctic Monkeys and Guns N' Roses, but that makes for a very male, very white headlining trio - which would be very much at odds with Emily Eavis's pledge for diversity and gender equality. After being lucky enough to catch Lizzo's first Glastonbury performance (West Holts stage, 2019), Culture Whisper is crossing our fingers that she'll be back for 2023 on a bigger stage. There's a perfect gap in her tour schedule and a new album to promote, making Lizzo a sensible contender.

Harry Styles?

Harry Styles?

There were big rumours that Harry Styles would surprise fans with a secret at last year's Glastonbury, but we were left disappointed. Could this be his year? He has a show in Belgium on the Saturday night but could just about squeeze in a trip to Somerset for Friday or Sunday.

Dua Lipa?

Dua Lipa?

Dua Lipa would certainly bring some girl power and some killer dance moved to the line up. She doesn't have any shows scheduled around the time of Glastonbury, but will she headline in her own right, or perhaps join Elton John on stage for a rendition of Cold Heart?

Lewis Capaldi?

Lewis Capaldi?

Scottish singer-songwrighter Lewis Capaldi has enjoyed a meteoric rise since he played The Other Stage at Glastonbury in 2019. HIs tour schedule has a Glastonbury-shaped gap in June.

Rihanna?

Rihanna?

Rihanna's has apparently been in talks to make her Glastonbury debut. Her Super Bowl show is all the proof we need that should be make a magnificent headliner. But that same Super Bowl show most probably rules her out, as a pregnancy announcement likely means the popstar will likely be taking some time for her growing family.
