Tango luminary German Cornejo returns to his roots with Tango After Dark, a high-octane trawl through Argentina's national dance coming to the Peacock Theatre

German Cornejo is known internationally as a remarkable tango dancer and entrepreneur whose tango-themed international shows inject pizzazz and a measure of acrobatics into Argentina's national dance. Forget nuance: this is tango designed to have maximum appeal to undifferentiated international audiences, so as to bring enthused spectators to their feet clapping and yelping.

The concept is one of the keys to Cornejo's success: another is that he picks accomplished dancers to match him and his regular partner Gisela Galeassi.

So, following his lamentable foray into a deeply unsatisfactory hybrid between tango and circus earlier this year, German Cornejo returns to the Peacock Theatre with a tried and tested proper tango show, Tango After Dark.

Awarded glowing reviews in its first London outing four years ago, Tango After Dark brings together five Buenos Aires couples, including World Tango Champions Cornejo and Galeassi, who are also the show's co-choreographers, plus two singers and seven musicians. The score is by the late great moderniser of Argentine tango music Astor Piazzolla.

As well as taking part in the ensemble numbers, the individual couples in the cast choreograph their own numbers to showcase their own particular styles. So you have a glitzy, sexy show boasting variety, breathtaking foot speed, some acrobatic stunts and some unexpected turns.

Tango After Dark
is just the kind of show to revive your joy of living at a time when the nights are drawing in and winter starts knocking on the door.
