In pooling their talents at Milton Court for one night only, the celebrity team hope to raise £25,000 for the family of New Zealand opera star Anna Leese, whose husband, Stefano, having recently become a father, has succumbed to the disease and been given two years to live.
The first half of the concert, which is dedicated to the theme of love, features music by Mahler, Richard Strauss and Vaughan Williams. The second half celebrates opera, and features Sophie Bevan performing 'V’adoro, pupille’ from Handel’s Giulio Cesare, Thomas Allen singing 'Donne mie' from Così Fan Tutte and the amazing baritone Jacques Imbrailo in music from Le Nozze di Figaro, both by Mozart, and David Butt Philip, Carleen Ebbs, Brigitte Heuser and Philip Smith singing the famous last act quartet from Verdi's Rigoletto.
Butt Philip also sings 'La fleur que tu m’avais jetée’ from Bizet's Carmen, and Thomas Allen, Sarah Castle and Madeleine Pierard sing the great trio ‘Soave sia il vento’ from Mozart's Così Fan Tutte.
Says Sir Thomas Allen, patron of the appeal: ‘Anna’s musical family is coming together to demonstrate its love and support. We are all looking forward to participating in a concert which promises to deliver some wonderful music making.’
You could wait a long time – well, a lifetime actually – to hear this line-up under one roof, and singing so many favourites. Plus, it's all in a good cause...
