Fashion Designer Anya Hindmarch curates a Sotheby's auction and exhibition

British designer Anya Hindmarch is the Nancy Mitford of the fashion world. Her designs, like her, are utterly English: witty, practical and irreverent. Her handbags have been charming the world for more than two decades. Hindmarch set up her business straight out of school, and by '92 they were sold in luxury outlets all over the world. Now she has 53 shops worldwide, and is a trustee of both the Royal Academy and the Design Museum.

Now, Mayfair auction house Sotheby's have invited the designer to curate an auction and exhibition of contemporary art. The works on sale are from some of the biggest names in contemporary art. Look out for an Ai Weiwei throne, a Keith Haring (to die for - above), Andreas Gursky, Tracy Emin and the irresistible Yayoi Kusama.

For the deep-pocketed among us, the auction takes place on 20 September. But for those of us who just want to gawp, the pre-sale exhibition takes place in Mayfair from the 16th to 19th of September - including a late-night viewing on the 16th. See you there.
