The Sinews of War: Arms and Armour from the Age of Agincourt, The Wallace Collection

Grab your armour and sword - we're off to the Battle of Agincourt for The Wallace Collection's fantastic new free exhibition

The Wallace Collection London, The Sinews of War exhibition, European Armoury
We often think of the Battle of Agincourt on 25th October 1415 as a victory of the ‘common people’ over aristocrats. The story goes that the English longbowmen triumphed over the French knights, their technological prowess overwhelming the Frenchmen’s historically-revered fighting-style. But the Wallace Collection’s new autumn display is about to change all that.
Wallace Collection exhibition 2015
This show suggests that in fact, the Battle of Agincourt was fought brutally hand-to-hand between knights on both sides, the English archers only joining towards the end of the battle with hand-held weapons and not their bows.
The curation proves this theory through concrete evidence, and you'll find thrilling original weapons and Wallace Collection armour, as well as other medieval pieces from the archives all on display.
Family Fun
This show’s willingness to confront outdated narratives is a reminder that we should never be complacent about questioning the past. Great for big kids and eager little ones fascinated by historical battles and heroes - the delightful context of the unparalleled Wallace Collection is an added bonus!
