Keith Arnatt: Absence of the Artist, Sprüth Magers

Sprüth Magers gets to grips with pioneering photographer Keith Arnatt in this short but sweet conceptual art exhibition

This September, Sprüth Magers spotlights the work of British artist Keith Arnatt - one of the trailblazing conceptual artists in the UK when the movement exploded in the 1960s and 70s.
Keith Arnatt biography
Trained at the Royal Academy Schools, Arnatt had a fascination with using the camera as an independent instrument for art making, rather than just a tool to document the creative process. Curious about art that is created in the landscape but leaves no trace of its presence behind, Arnatt produced an astounding body of work that captured transitory glimpses of both the natural and human world.
Keith Arnatt photography & art
His analytic and ephemeral approach is perhaps best summed up by a programme on German television in 1969, when Arnatt broadcasted one unexplained and unannounced photograph each day for two seconds, often interrupting whatever programme was being shown, and leaving the viewer to provide their own interpretation.
With just a few weeks to catch this blink-and-you'll-miss-it show at Sprüth Magers art gallery – this captivating exhibition is well worth a fleeting lunchtime trip.
