Alice Anderson: Memory Movement Memory Objects, Wellcome Collection

Wellcome Collection Alice Anderson exhibition ties up the north London museum up in a tangle of copper wire

Alice Anderson artist, Ropes 2014, Wellcome Collection London
This summer, the Wellcome Collection presents a major exhibition of works by Alice Anderson, the French-British artist that tangled the Royal Opera House and Frank Gehry's Cinematheque Francaise up in a web of fiery red locks in 2010.
Who is Alice Anderson?
Anderson has a particular fascination with copper wire and is best known for her sculptures that are mummified in copper thread to create surreal and strangely beautiful objects that could be contemporary art installations or ancient relics. She began life as a filmmaker and turned to the visual arts in 2008 when copper wire took over her London studio. For Anderson art is a group activity and often asks people to join discussions and immersive art installations.

Memory Movement Memory Objects is made up of five distinct areas moving through Anderson's studio where you'll find 100 works of woven wire and even a mummified Ford Mustang car that visitors can add to throughout the show. Move through the Wellcome Collection and discover familiar and banal pieces from the studio made into ensemble pieces in the Recognisable Objects section, as well as more bemusing geometric forms glistening inside their copper wire cages in Abstract Objects. Enter Assemblage and Accumulation and you'll find even more uncanny items and finally new shapes being made by the screws and turns of wire in Distorted Objects.
If you are looking for things to do in North London, we recommend weaving your way through Alice Anderson's poetic and surreal world of twisted copper and bent wire at the Wellcome Collection this summer.
