FreshFaced + WildEyed at The Photographers’ Gallery celebrates the stunning work of twenty-five emerging photographers you'll want to keep an eye on. All recent graduates of photography or digital media-based courses from around the UK, the selected artists were chosen by a panel of experts through an open submission process.
Now in it’s eighth year, FreshFaced + WildEyed is one of our favourite annual photography exhibitions because of its incredible variety of photographic styles, techniques and themes: from Aida Silvestri and Jonathan Simpson’s images of refugee immigration, to Paul Hutchinson’s examination of Germany’s Hip Hop culture.
FreshFaced + WildEyed entries
This year’s lineup delves into the world of adult baptism, takes us on a journey in search of meteorites, sheds light on consumer culture, and explores sexuality and identity in the digital age. We are particularly excited to see the powerful portraiture by James Bell and Charan Singh, who both offer thought-provoking insights into vulnerable communities. Bell’s photographs take a look at the lives of street hustlers and vendors in Barbados, while Singh’s focus is on gay men in India. Make sure you check out the work of artist duo, ‘blør’, who reflect on the relationship between the real and the virtual through stunning digitally manipulated images.
Personal stories
Several of the young photographers open up their lives to the camera with tremendous results.Tanya Zommer invite us to into her tumultuous world as she waits with her partner for the birth of their child through surrogacy, while Sian Davey records the life of her three-year old daughter with Down’s Syndrome.
If you’re looking for photography exhibitions in London this summer, you’ll love this wonderfully diverse collection of work by rising photography stars.
