Unseen: The Lives of Looking by Dryden Goodwin, The Queen's House

Astonishing draughtsman Dryden Goodwin presents his first feature-length film at The Queen’s House in Greenwich

Dryden Goodwin, Explorer
How do we look? What do we see? These are the sorts of questions that artist Dryden Goodwin explores in his first feature-length film, soon to be displayed at the Unseen Queen’s House exhibition at the Royal Maritime Museum in Greenwich.
Dryden Goodwin facts
Dryden Goodwin drawings are particularly well known for their intricate detail, which examine urban infrastructure and its impact on the individual. Studying at the traditional Slade School of Fine Art, London, you might have seen Goodwin at the Tate Liverpool 2000 show.
Queen’s House Greenwich exhibition
The acclaimed contemporary artist has brought together the lives of three very different individuals at the forefront of their profession, connected by their expertise in ‘looking’. The meticulous procedures of the eye surgeon, the social perceptions of the human rights lawyer and the farsightedness of the planetary observer are amazingly disparate manners of viewing the world, but are intertwined by Goodwin in Greenwich. The film incorporates the artist’s drawings of each expert, blended into an enchanting visual journey.
The show also includes studies and drawings connected to the Maritime Greenwich World Heritage site.
It seems fitting that a modern exhibition on looking should be held a stone’s throw from the Greenwich Observatory, where pioneers have scrutinised the stars.
