Asian Art in London 2014 celebrates just that – the eclectic mix of Asian art that a city as vibrant as London has to offer in spades.
One of the most exciting art events in London, this carnival of eastern art has been running for seven years and is still going strong. Hailed as the only event in the world ‘to incorporate an entire city’s art community’, it also celebrates a community whose history spans more than six thousand years.
The celebration launches on the 30th of October with the Asian Art in London gala party in the British Museum’s Great Court. Tickets include access to the museum’s Ming – 50 years on
exhibition, which showcases the richness and scope of the Ming Dynasty that has, until recently, been vastly underappreciated by western culture.
Thousands of artists, critics and buyers will be flooding in from across the globe to take part in this ten day exploration into London’s long-standing connection with eastern art and culture. From private selling Asian art exhibitions and auction house sales to lectures and symposia; this lively reincarnation of Asia’s artistic store incorporates a multitude of opportunities for anyone looking to gain an insight into the rich culture of Asia’s ancient countries.
Highlights will include: Simon Ray Ltd’s collection of Gandharian sculpture of the 2nd and 3rd century, Francesca Galloway’s display of Indian treasures, and Bonhams’ highly valuable Ming Piece, “Pond” Bowl, estimated at £400,000- 600,000. A host of contemporary Asian art in London is also on display, including Joost van Den Bergh’s, “Tantric Drawings” and One East Asia’s, “Breaking & Reconstructing the circle”.
With art from India, Vietnam, Korea, Japan and South East Asia, business meets pleasure at an event not to be missed by art critics and dabblers alike. Click here for the full calendar of events.
