I, Victim, Chelsea Theatre

The might of performance artist David Hoyle is unleashed this autumn in an intimate caberet show as part of Chelsea Theatre's Sacred Festival.

I, Victim, Chelsea Theatre
Part stand-up, part drag queen, complete revolutionary, David Hoyle (neé the Divine David) is an art form in himself. In his witty and provocative shows, he is a voice of liberalism and acceptance.
Hoyle is a huge presence, commanding the stage by height alone (exacerbated by vertiginous heels.) He describes himself as an anti-drag queen; his costume make-up and hair are statements in themselves. He confides in his audience like a friend, occasionally beckoning them onstage. Punctuating his rhetoric with songs, art and dance, Hoyle is fiercely intelligent, which makes for vicious, outraged comedy. “I’m here to grant you permission to be who you truly are. We all try to contextualise ourselves within so-called quasi-pseudo-faux reality. It’s a tragedy. Wear a nylon wig.”
In the course of his astonishing career, he has performed in a variety of London venues, from Soho Theatre to the Victoria & Albert Museum. As such a span suggests, each show is unpredictable. Expect a feast for the senses and a few inventive surprises.
