London Art Fair 2019
London Art Fair is a warren of booths, each one housing a well-respected art gallery. Radiant galleristas welcome you in, while well-dressed folk titter and circulate. Every year, London Art Fair kicks off the art fair season with glitz and glamour.
The 31st edition of the fair brings together more than 100 respected modern and contemporary galleries from around the world. Newcomers include Hazelton Fine Art Galleries from Canada, Paris-based Galerie Bayart, offering contemporary art and sculpture, and modern art specialists Messum's from London. Modern British art sits alongside contemporary and mixed media works by both emerging and established artists, including David Shrigley, Charming Baker and the Chapman Brothers. Prints continue to make a strong showing, with Flowers Gallery and Emanuel von Baeyer bringing a roster or well-known names, including Lucian Freud and Richard Long.
In addition to the commercial galleries, London Art Fair presents two curated projects: ArtProjects and Photo50. ArtProjects offers talented emerging artists from all over the world a platform to showcase their work, while Photo50, the fair's annual guest-curated exhibition, highlights the dominant trends in contemporary photography. The 13th edition of Photo50 is curated by British curator, writer and editor Tim Clark, and takes 'family dynamics' as its central theme. As you peruse the work of the fourteen exhibited artists, expect to engage with fundamental questions about family life.
Moreover, as part of London Art Fair's commitment to public access, Eastbourne's Towner Art Gallery will present a part of its collection at the fair. The Living Collection illustrates the gallery's rich heritage of championing contemporary art, and features work by renowned modern and contemporary artists, including William Nicholson and Wolfgang Tilmans. Alongside the art, there's a full programme of talks and workshops to enjoy at London Art Fair, too.
