Stamp Out Photographie, Whitechapel Gallery
Artist Fiona Banner, best known for conceptual ‘workscapes’, turns her hand to selecting a series of works from the V-A-C Foundation for this new exhibition of contemporary art at Whitechapel Gallery, London.

What is the V-A-C- collection, Moscow?

With the gallery’s ongoing commitment to opening up private collections to the public, Banner is the second of four guest curators tasked with mining the richly populated collection of the V-A-C, a private non-profit institution established in Moscow in 2009.

Whitechapel exhibition highlights

Look out for Gerhard Richter’s Kerze (1982), a hyper-realistic painting of a single glowing candle that you might recognize as the cover of Daydream Nation, Sonic Youth’s 1988 album. You’ll also be delighted by the oscillating black & white Bridget Riley painting, Stretch (1964), and Andy Warhol’s iconic Jackie (1964) - a portrait based on press photographs of Jackie Kennedy.

Exhibitions with practicing artists at their helm like the individually curated rooms at the annual Royal Academy Summer Exhibition have been popular in recent years and this promises to present a similarly thoughtful and striking collection of work – one not to be missed.
