Stepping Out: Amanda Holden stars in the West End revival of Richard Harris' tap-dancing play

Stepping Out, Vaudeville Theatre
Britain's got Talent but has Amanda Holden? London theatre fans will soon get to judge for themselves as the actor turned talent show judge returns to the West End stage to star alongside West End regulars Tracey-Ann Oberman and Angela Griffin in a revival of Stepping Out. Richard Harris' 1984 comic play revolves around a weekly tap-dancing class in a North London church hall.

The hilarity and hi-jinks comes from the mixing pot of different people who come along to spend an hour tapping their tops - then there's distinctly amateur dance moves. It's not the most nuanced of comedic character studies, but there's an infectious sense of enthusiasm, sharp one-liners and, now over 30 years on, there's a nostalgic celebration of a time when classes in the church hall were at the heart of community life.

Since scooping an Evening Standard award for Best Comedy in 1984, Stepping out has since been adapted for the big screen, with a cast led by Liza Minelli and Julie Walters. This new production brings the play back to the stage, with a UK tour that will end at London's Vaudeville theatre. We're curious to see if this new production will update the aesthetic or embrace the eighties-tastic legwarmers.
