Battersea Arts Centre: Summer in the Courtyard
Savour sunny evenings and get your fill of innovative performances without venturing up to the Edinburgh Fringe this summer. The open-air courtyard at Battersea Arts Centre comes to life with a lively season of comedy, spoken word, music and theatre.

Kicking off the season on 7 June, there's comedy from award-winning trio Sleeping Trees, combining sketches, stand up and music to characteristically chaotic effect.

Night owls can laugh long into the night as Stand up Under the Stars (14 June, 27 June and 5 July) invites a stellar cast of comedians to entertain us after dark. Highlights include Netflix favourite James Acaster, Live at the Apollo stars Phil Wang and Elf Lyons, Edinburgh Comedy Award winner Tim Key, QI's Lolly Adefope and many more.

Spoken word and poetry take over in a series of open mic nights from Boxedin. Artful verse and random banter combine as the UK's best emerging and established writers share their own words and invite eager audience members to do the same. There's just 90 seconds to impress.

In an evening of friendly rivalry Boxedin: CLASH on 22 June will see two teams, captained by contemporary poets, go head-to-head in a game of North vs South London with trivia, music and mini-challenges, aiming to highlight the diversity of the capital.

Music lovers can be serenaded by some of London's finest emerging musicians as FIAA + Laid Bare: Live in the Courtyard presents an all-female line up on 29 June. Celebrate these creative women and their craft with an evening of soulful pop music, blues, jazz, R&B and folk. Performers include singer-songwriters Alma and Yasmin Corrigan.

There's theatre at its very freshest with Scratch, where artists present new ideas or works in progress, and audience members can give feedback. Or lose yourself in all things lunar as Stories in the Moonlight puts the focus on narratives around around the moon.

Other highlights include a live gig from story-telling singer-songwriter Gavin Osborn (9 June) and acoustic jams from up-and-coming artists (29 June and 21 July).
