Torn, Royal Court Theatre

The ruptures, resentment and revelations of one family will be explored in the world premiere of new play Torn. Nathaniel Martello-White is already established as a fine actor, and has impressed at the Royal Court in Who Cares and Teh Internet is Serious Business, but now, for the Sixty Years Young Season, he returns as a playwright. And, if his debut play Blackta (Young Vic, 2012) is anything to go by, expect sparky wit and eloquent social observation.
Having examined black masculinity in Blackta, Martello-White will now look at equally hard-hitting themes of familial tension, as a girl called Angel forces her dysfunctional family to have a meeting and face up to generations of lies.
Further information about the production is sparse and the director and cast are yet to be confirmed, but we're excited to see more from this promising writer.
