Artistic director of Theatre Royal Stratford East Nadia Fall (Home, Three Sisters) compiles real-life interviews and testimonials to construct a picture of life in contemporary Iran.

New drama Welcome to Iran premieres in Stratford in April, before transferring to the National's Dorfman Theatre in May. It follows a 20-something British-Iranian called Ava. After her father's death, Ava travels to Iran to learn more about her history and heritage. As she is swept into a world of forbidden love, underground parties, police raids, family politics, moral conflicts and endless traffic, Ava learns about the complexity and contradictions of her native country.

The true-life accounts promise to build a witty and accurate picture of culture and life in modern Iran.
