The trials and tribulations of running a business take centre stage in a new play at the Hampstead Theatre. Ryan Craig’s new comedy Filthy Business explores how entrepreneurial outsiders became a part of a rapidly changing Britain.

Set in East London in 1968, the play follows Yetta Solomon, who has defied the odds staked against her to build a burgeoning business. The story revolves around her desire to protect the business and keep it in her family - despite the conflicting intentions of her sons, grandchildren and in-laws. Sarah Kestelman returns to the Hampstead after An Intelligent Homosexual's Guide to play Yetta.

Having received very mixed reviews for with The Holy Rosenbergs (National Theatre ) and What We Did To Weinstein (Menier Chocolate Factory, 2005), Craig is known for portrayals of Jewish family life - which have had a tendency towards over-explaining or worthiness.

But, as reviewers have noted, this is a playwright with a flair for story-telling so we hope for a sharper production under the direction of Edward Hall (whose many successes include Raving, Rabbit Hole and Oliver Award winning Sunny Afternoon).

Public booking opens on Monday 30 January 2017.
