Austentatious: The Improvised Jane Austen Novel on the West End

Get ready to swoon: a 'lost' Jane Austen novel is created on the spot in this cult improvised comedy

Austentatious: The Improvised Jane Austen Novel, London
It is a truth universally acknowledged that an evening immersed in Jane Austen will bring laughter, romance, meddling and plenty of arch asides.

Austentatious takes the hallmarks of Austen's novels and muddles them together into a improvised theatre show. Expect the unexpected as a cast of eight whipsmart comic performers magic up a 'lost' novel on the spot. It's up to the audience to suggest titles, then watch as a spontaneous show develops, drawing in the best-loved elements Jane Austen's prose. Previous carnations of the story have included Mansfield Shark, Double 0 Darcy and The Sixth Sense and Sensibility.

Live musical accompaniment and all the pomp and frills of Regency dress accompany the comedy and chaos.

The show is a stalwart of the Edinburgh Fringe, which can now be enjoyed at the Savoy Theatre (18 March, 15 April, 20 May, 17 June and 8 July).
