Who is Edmund de Waal?
Best known as the author of The Hare with Amber Eyes which delves into the story of de Waal's family history and their spectacular collection of miniature Japanese sculptures called netsuke, de Waal is also one of the most important ceramicists working today. To add to de Waal's list of talents, he is also a keen art historian that has written widely on the subject of ceramics and the nature of collecting.

A magician with both prose and porcelain, de Waal learnt his craft at school with the potter-in-residence Geoffrey Whitting at his side - an avid fan of the 20th century potter Bernard Leach. His chic designs and pure white veneers, with just a splash of cobalt blue, are greatly influenced by the Edmund de Waal family's Japanese collection and have become internationally regarded with exhibitions at Tate Britain, Victoria & Albert Museum and the Gagosian Gallery New York. Londoners will also be able to spot Edmund de Waal pottery soon at London Victoria with a forthcoming project alongside David Chipperfield Architects.
