Opera Holland Park 2016 this summer presents the ultimate operetta, Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss II. With six performances, it will be fizzing and waltzing through July and August.

The story centers on a magnificent masked ball, given by a Russian prince, that brings together all the main characters in various disguises. Farce and humour take centre stage in this operetta as identities are concealed and revealed and everybody is looking to catch each other out for improprieties. Despite all the comedy there is also opportunity for Strauss to showcase genuine human emotion and a view of urban life.

In Die Fledermaus mezzo-soprano Samantha Price sings the "trouser role" of Prince Orlovsky, with Ben Johnson as Gabriel von Eisenstein and Susanna Hurrell as Rosalinde.

The operetta sparkles with waltzes and duets and is sure to be a delight to listen to.
