Somerset House: Family Activities Summer 2016
This summer holiday, take all the family for a day out to Somerset House. They will be hosting a number of family friendly activities this August, sure to keep children of any age happy.

If your little one likes to get creative, treat them to exciting workshops, from screen printing to gaming. And you can get involved yourself, with activities constructed especially for the grown ups too.
For Young People...


1. An Introduction to Screen Printing with Print Club London
Expert screen printers are holding a two-hour session, which allows young people to learn more about this technical art with the chance to make their own creation. This is sure to engage and entertain visitors and teach them a few things along the way.
Saturday 6th August, 12:00-14:00 Ages 13-17, £10

2. Create Your Own Avatar
Visitors are invited to create a cartoon version of themselves using digital and animation software. This is an interesting activity to help teach young people more about computer animation and give them the chance to construct their own alter-ego.

3. Alternative Art School
This full day workshop is aimed at slightly older children, inviting them to approach art in a new and creative way. They will be encouraged to take part in various games and talks with artists to learn more about the subject. This activity is a good opportunity for any young people planning on going to art school, to find out a little more about the industry.

4. Now is the Time: Gaming a Better Tomorrow
This workshop runs across two days and will certainly appeal to any young people with a real interest in politics. Looking forward to the year 2020, participants are encouraged to imagine what life will be like for students in a Brexit-run society. Through performance, visitors are invited to voice their ideas on the future and our political state.

For Families...


1. Radical Robots
Become inspired by robots from the big screen, before making your own in this activity for all the family. Have fun making a robot you'd like to see being a hero, or one you'd like to be yourself.
Saturday 6th August, 12:00-15:00, Free for families with children aged 6-12

2. Family Screening: The Iron Giant
Ted Hughes' story of the Iron Giant has been loved for years, and the 1999 film adaptation brought a tear to many an eye. Treat the family to this heart-warming story of one boy and his 100ft-tall robot friend. A touching story of friendship and loyalty.

3. Screening: Forbidden Planet
Bring the whole family along to a screening of sci-fi classic, Forbidden Planet, in which a space expedition goes wrong.

4. World Illustration Awards: Artist Show and Tell
Each week a different artist, featured in the Somerset House exhibition, will hold a talk based around their work. They will discuss their inspiration, their processes, and the finished piece in general. Great for an insight into the life of a working artist.
