Lauren Child's Doll's House, House of Illustration

The Charlie and Lola illustrator's hand-crafted doll’s house goes on display for the first time in King's Cross

Lauren Child's Doll's House, House of Illustration
With the publication of Waterstone's Book of the Year, The Miniaturist a couple of years ago, it's clear that both children and adults find something delightful about dolls houses. Don't ask us why. Children's author Lauren Childs seems to know, however, as she's had a passion for them since she was a child (they even continue to influence her work today).
The celebrated writer and illustrator of much-loved children's book Charlie and Lola has gifted the House of Illustration with her own dolls' house, which she's been working on for the past 30 years.
You can find it in the South Gallery, the smaller gallery next to the main EH Shepard exhibition, of the House of Illustration until February, complete with Charlie and Lola figures and three floors of beautiful interiors.
This is the first time the completed dolls’ house will be shown to the public, alongside original sets made for her acclaimed book The Princess and the Pea, which is illustrated with 3D miniature scenes.
Fans should look out for the shelf Child has curated in the House of Illustration shop, which shows a range of books that have inspired her and her work.
