Kids learn computer coding at the Southbank Centre this half term
For children more interested in playing on their computers than wondering London’s galleries this May half term, there’s a chance for them to learn about coding as part of the Southbank Centre’s Web We Want festival, celebrating how and why people interact with the digital world.
As the value of programming proficiency becomes more apparent, with children as young as five now being taught coding skills in the classroom, CoderDojo, a global network of programming clubs aimed at young people between the ages of 7-17, is offering three free sessions in computer technology to aspiring web designers and computer engineers. Children will be get involved in all three sessions - but don't forget to book a ticket this event is likely to fill up.
Scratch for Beginners, is aimed specifically at children with a flair for gaming, and teaches children how to build a simple interactive game using a programme called Scratch.
Suitable for ages 7-12
Build a simple website maybe the most useful session of all, teaching children how to build a webpage in html and expand it into a full website. A great head start for children who are likely to need these skills later in life.
Suitable for ages 10+
The Kano session is really targeting future computer engineers, and allows children over the age of ten to construct a Kano mini computer and then teaches them how to use it.
Suitable for ages 10 +
