Alexis Deacon’s heartwarming story about a lost long-eared alien exploring the Earth for the first time is definitely a Christmas show with a difference.

Paper Crane Puppet Company have been very busy building rabbits, trains, buses and a light-up spaceship in readiness for their staging of Beegu, based on the children’s picturebook by Alexis Deacon. Beegu has fallen onto a mysterious blue-green planet. She tries to talk to its people but they don’t seem to understand her. “Beegu was not supposed to be here. She was lost...but from far away, she thought she heard her mother calling.” This little alien is really quite loveable— she doesn’t need to worry too much about making friends. On her journey, she comes across all kinds of extraordinary things on this extraordinary blue-green planet. There is music composed especially for the show.

Perfect for children aged 3-8. Paper Crane’s puppets are always crafted with the utmost attention to detail and though an alien is a strange commission, in the past they’ve been asked to make a giant moving polar bear for Greenpeace and even a puppet incarnation of the comedian Eric Idle. The Scotsman listed their show Ronnie and the Other World among the top ten weirdest and most wonderful shows to catch at the Edinburgh Fringe, which gives a hint at the imaginative power of these puppeteers.

Designed designer Michael Fowkes promises that the puppet of Beegu will be "spectaular". He also says that if you stay after the show, the little ones can meet and greet the puppet characters.
