Jabberwocky, Little Angel Theatre

Beware the Jabberwock: Lewis Carroll's mythical beast is brought to life in a magical musical world of marionettes and morals hidden in the nonsense.

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch"

Lewis Carroll's joyous nonsense world of the jubjub bird and the tumtum tree is a favourite of readers of all ages thanks to the seductive sounds that slip from the tongue and fizz into life. Now the vibrant poem and its fantastical and ferocious creatures are woven into a narrative in this exuberant family puppet show.

Our hero Milo is forced to stay inside his overprotective parents, who are paranoid about the dangerous creatures lurking in the outside world. When Milo finally makes a break for freedom he discovers that while there is indeed much to make him quake with fear -- the fuminous Bandersnatch, the Jabberwock himself -- there's also a wondrous world to make him yell 'callooh, callay'. The bright puppet cast have wild eyes and flickery shadows, as these stunningly crafted marionettes inspire fear, wonder and delight.

The show enchanted critics and children when it premiered in 2004. This a welcome return to Little Angel and a chance for those too young to experience the production last time.

Recommended for ages six and up (under fives will not be permitted).
