Make your own antennae, investigate some bugs and even meet the characters from Roald Dahl's James and the Giant Peach at the Natural History Museum

James and the Giant Weekend, Natural History Museum
Kids might be heading back to school in early September (do try to act miserable, mums and dads), but that doesn’t mean the fun has to stop. The Natural History Museum has teamed up with the Roald Dahl Story Company to create a wealth of insect-related activities over the weekend of 8th-9th September, inspired by James and the Giant Peach, one of Dahl’s best-loved stories.

Budding entomologists will love finding out more about their favourite creepy-crawlies from the Museum’s experts and getting hands-on with minibeasts – there’s even a chance to meet the characters from the book. Once your little ones (and perhaps you) are all tuckered out, you can relax in the Darwin Centre courtyard, with tunes provided by three-piece band Roald Dahl’s Giant Bugs.

Take the 'What Bug Am I?' quiz and make a pair of wearable antennae (appropriate to your inner insect, of course) to take home. And for slightly older kids, there’ll be a team from the Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre on hand to help you write your very own story about insects. Who knows? Maybe the next Roald Dahl will pen their first masterpiece in the Museum’s leafy Wildlife Garden.
