Animal Collective are among the most celebrated bands of the twenty first century. Their music has seen myriad iterations over the years, with influences as disparate as Beach Boys melodicism, off-kilter folk, and techno percussion combining in intoxicating fashion. To date, Merriweather Post Pavilion (2009) remains their crowning achievement: a glistening, electrifying compendium of reverb-laden synths and soaring harmonies, dotted with poignant reflections on lovers’ strolls and the anxieties of fatherhood.

Committed maximalists, Animal Collective's most recent album Painting With is a dizzyingly ebullient listen. It starts as it means to go on, with a euphoric duet entitled 'Floridada;' from then on, it doesn't relent, managing to stay just the right side of absurdity. It may not be their finest work to date, but it has enough moments of magic to keep you hooked in.

The group comes to London on April 11 and 12. Initially, they were booked to play O2 Shepherds Bush Empire but due to essential remedial work on the venue, the shows have now been moved to Troxy. All purchased tickets remain valid.
