Coal Office Restaurant, King's Cross

Sample exquisite Middle Eastern and Mediterranean-inspired dishes by The Barbary's Chef Assaf Granit at the Coal Office: Tom Dixon's urban space

Coal Office, Tom Dixon
Coal Drop's Yard in King's Cross is not only a hub for London's fashionistas, but also for its keenest foodies. The Coal Office, British designer Tom Dixon's new flagship store, is home to a restaurant as well as a furniture shop, workshop, gallery and office.

Coal Office restaurant was built on the ethos that in addition to delicious food, great décor is necessary for the best dining experiences. Chef Assaf Granit and Tom Dixon himself have come together to create this urban 'food and design playground', offering Middle Eastern and Mediterranean-inspired dishes in an intricately designed setting.

Spread across two floors, with characteristic Tom Dixon interiors and a breathtaking terrace, this is an eatery like no other. The food created by Chef Assaf Granit, owner of The Barbary, is also to the highest of quality. Highlights on the menu include Machneyuda’s polenta with asparagus, parmesan and black truffle (a steal from Granit’s Jerusalem restaurant); the Josperized Aubergine (delicate, unusual and made pretty with a scattering of pomegranate); and a bread so delicious – its inner dough soft, salty and buttery like a croissant – it could be the work of the devil.

For anyone who decides they want to recreate the Coal Office restaurant experience at home, the tableware, designed by Dixon, is available to purchase and, even more excitingly, recipes of the dishes are even given out upon request.

When you've finished your meal, be sure to explore the rest of the Coal Office store. Marvel at Dixon’s most famous pieces – the S Chair, Bird Chaise and Pylon Chair – in store, or scout out his latest designs available to purchase. Alternatively, head on down to The Factory where visitors can try their hand at a variety of activities to help get their creative juices flowing.
