Berner's Tavern, Fitzrovia
Berners Tavern has the wow factor. Located inside the five-star London Edition hotel, this Fitzrovia eatery is the home of the Michelin-starred chef Jason Atherton's fantastic seasonal cuisine that reflects the best of modern British food.

Berners Tavern is inspired by the classic muted colours of Johannes Vermeer's paintings and the work of American artist Donald Judd, yet overall it is anything but subdued. Two large custom-made bronze chandeliers, reminiscent of those in NYC's Grand Central Terminal, illuminate the Trunk Archive: a curated series of portraits, landscapes and still life works in the manner of a private collection that lines the walls.

The three-course weekend roast and afternoon tea are offered side-by-side – and both defy convention. There's Buccleuch Estate beef tartare with egg yolk jam definitely a first and slow cooked Herdwick lamb shoulder, as well as a vegetarian option. The ultra sweet-toothed could move straight into tea: cucumber sandwiches with whipped goat's curd or Earl Grey and orange choux buns with orange confit.
