Maltby Street Market

Hidden gem Maltby Street is gaining renown as one of London's best street food markets with an array of delectable foodstuffs to feast your eyes and appetites on.

Maltby Street Market
Maltby Street Market, set under some railway arches in a quiet part of Bermondsey, has become a weekend ritual for the city’s most discerning gourmets. Though not the biggest of London’s food markets, its relaxed charm, and excellent array of vendors, mean it’s easily one of the best markets in East London

Poppy and Sebastian
Weekend regulars Poppy & Sebastian are a contemporary patisserie selling handmade cakes almost too exquisite to eat. We would travel across London for a single bite of their beautiful creation, Le Snickers: a delicate concoction of caramel bavarois, chocolate mousse, créme brulee and peanut praline, topped with an edible pansy.

Monty’s Deli
Every weekend, Monty’s Deli sell mouthwatering matzo soup and pastrami and salt beef sandwiches, food so uplifting they are right to call it “Jewish Soul Food”. All made by owner Mark, the pastrami is rubbed with a blend of spices and smoked for seven hours. We love their Rueben Special, though we’ve yet to conquer it in a single sitting.

The Cheese Truck
Each weekend, a bright yellow van rolls up Maltby Street. It belongs to the Cheese Truck team, who sell their indulgent grilled cheese sandwich to hungry market-goers. Slices of Italian sourdough oozing with the best British cheese make these the kerbside kings of comfort food.

Waffle On
Selling homemade waffles with sweet and savoury toppings, this husband and wife duo have made a name for themselves amongst the sweet-toothed. Their most recent invention, the Apple Strudel waffle, was so tasty, it caused a stampede when it debuted.

St. John’s Bakery on Druid Street
On Saturday mornings, the nearby St. John’s bakery opens its doors to sell its famous doughnuts. We suggest you get there early as they sell out - and quickly - each week. Filled with créme patissière and chantilly cream, or homemade peach and rhubarb jams, it’s not difficult to understand the hype.
