Clarette wine bar, Marylebone

New opening: a multi-level wine bar in Marylebone with an exceptional French wine list

Clarette wine bar, Marylebone
Clarette is a bold new wine bar celebrating the depth and diversity of France, with a major vineyard from the Bordeaux region behind it. The celebrated Châteaux Margaux is providing much of the wine, which makes sense since its heiress, Alexandra Petit, is behind the opening with business partner Natsuko Perromat du Marais, who worked with French restaurateur Alain Ducasse for 12 years.

The arrival of Clarette is part of a new wave of wine bars across London, including Nape in Clerkenwell and Comptoir Cafe and Wine in Mayfair. Although the menu will have an international flavour, most of the list will celebrate noted and smaller, independent vineyards in France. Thibault Pontallier, another ambassador from the Châteaux, will also oversee the project.

Over three floors, this spacious new venue will have a relaxed yet elegant feel, and a modern conversational service style will break down long wine lists and make them relateable, with wines starting from £5 a glass.

A selection of sharing platters will also have a French feel, although there's little information available yet about what'll be on the menu.

The space will be broken down into a generous outdoors terrace, an upstairs relaxation room with an open fire and more of a statement ground-floor space, with large communal wine tables for tastings, imitating what you would find at a wine tasting in an esteemed château.
